Godflesh, "Us and Them"
Ever since I started listening to metal, Godflesh has been something of an enigma to me. I never quite understood the appeal of electronica infused in a metal framework. The music was interesting, but it was difficult to absorb due to its overall simplicity. On the band's most recent album, Us and Them, the band further pushes my listening limits with still more of their unmistakable music. Some of the tracks are interesting for a little while, others fall flat in the first 20 seconds, and the album is as difficult for me to appreciate as Picasso would be for a blind man. For fans of Godflesh, Us and Them will probably not disappoint, but for those of you into death or black metal, the band is still just as much of an exercise in tolerance as it has ever been.
