Inveracity, "Circle of Perversion"
The unmistakable twang of audible bass, blast beats and guttural, vomited vocals are pervasive throughout Inveracity's Circle of Perversion CD. The sound quality is excellent and the music is heavy enough, but the problem lies elsewhere. Through the 11 tracks on this 26-minute disc there is neither a unique idea nor an interesting moment. Inveracity is simply regurgitating what's been done in the brutal death metal scene for the last decade.
Furthermore, the strongly misogynistic imagery and lyrics focusing on murder and rape of the fairer sex are unnecessary. Yes, brutal death metal is all about power and sickening ideas, but to focus on women is either bringing out the band's sexist nature or hinting at some sort of deeper personal inadequacy. I think Freud would have a field day with the material that Inveracity offers up here?and my guess is that they'd be very unhappy with his diagnosis.Peter Johnston
