Godflesh, "Love and Hate in Dub"
As I am sure you have noticed by the fact that I have reviewed all of the Godflesh catalog except Hymns, as it was done before I got the idea to do this, I am a big Godflesh fan. This is what makes this review all the more painful to do. For reasons I personally do not understand, Godflesh decided to remix various songs from the album Songs of Love and Hate an re-release them on this album. This album I would have to say is the lowpoint for the career of the 'flesh, as this album is just boring. I mean, chew-your-own-arm-off-just-to-escape-hearing-it boring. Now I know I have gone off on many a rant about the concept of the remix, so I think you know what to expect here, and you're right, but for those who wish to hear me bitch on, I shall. This album just repeats various songs from Love and Hate, although it seems to remove whatever elements worked on the original version. The guitar is almost non-existant, in favor of nothing but drums and bass. I don't object to the use of the rhythm section, I am a big fan of their work, but without the noise in front of it, it gets dull very fast. I either need to take up clubbing or drugs to fully enjoy this. Shit, I'd need drugs just to tolerate this. Since all I can really do with this review is complain about the idea of the remix, I shall shutup now and get on with my life, and put this back into my cd collection, never to be played again. Sorry, I'm a Godflesh completist, I can't bring myself to get rid of it.K.Huckins
